My name is Albert and I have lived in Arusha Tanzania my entire life. Growing up with having the highest peak in Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro, has been very special. Imagine having “God’s window to Africa” in the palm of your hands and In your backyard.
Growing up I heard many stories from people wishing and wanting to climb Mt Kilimanjaro. I knew then that this was my calling and this is what I was meant to do. One day I got the opportunity to do so as a Porter. A Porter is someone who carries all the gear and equipment and food for the climbers from camp to camp. This is just one of the many functions that Porters do on the beautiful mountain. Sometimes Porters will assist clients back down the mountain who are too sick or injured to continue on.
After working hard for three years I became a qualified guide which meant that I could help climbers to achieve their dreams of a lifetime by summiting the top. For me just to see the look on the climbers face once they reach the summit is truly an overwhelming experience. Tears of joy, laughter and other emotions are so heartfelt. There are no words that can be put to paper as I see faces light up as to how they are feeling and what is going through their minds.
Accomplishing Mt Kilimanjaro is no easy task. The best reward is to know that myself and my crew play such a huge part in the climbers lives to achieve and fulfill their dreams. It is such a humble experience and I am blessed and honored that I can share this amazing experience with them.
I realize how much I enjoy sharing my love of the outdoors and adventure with others. I love helping people from all over the world experience the beauty of Tanzania. This is my passion and I want to pass it on.
